Kevin O'Mara from Bushfire Press KEVIN O'MARA - GENERAL MANAGER

Kevin O'Mara is the General Manager of Bushfire Press. He overseas all operations and projects, controls production, engineers recording sessions, handles the musicset and all the technical stuff, designs layout and liases with printers - and takes his tea black with one sugar. He also finds time to write and edit for the company.

Kevin was born in Melbourne, growing up in the working class suburb of Fawkner and is a passionate Carlton supporter - but don't hold that against him. He lives in the picturesque village of Warrandyte, by the Yarra River, east of Melbourne, with his wife, sons, and several thousand bellbirds. When not being a General Manager, Kevin umpires Aussie Rules football on the weekends in winter and leads the Warrandyte Primary School Bush Band.

Kevin has been a classroom teacher, music teacher and Music Advisor, as well as a professional musician, writer and performer. He holds a Dip Prim Tch and a Grad Dip Mus.

Kevin's involvement in music began with a scholarship to St Patrick's Cathedral Choir, Melbourne and he was a chorister with the choir from ages of 9 to 25. He was a founder member, in 1978, of Paradiddle Band, an Australian-Irish group that specialises in bush dances and primary school programs and is still performing.

In the late eighties, Kevin began writing school musicals with Lynne Bartlett, Mark Leehy and Rob Fairbairn. By the end of the decade, he, Lynne and Mark began Bushfire Press and those early shows were first titles published by the company.

  • Mark Leehy from Bushfire Press MARK LEEHY - PUBLISHER, BUSHFIRE PRESS

Being the publisher for the company, Mark gets to hang out with writers, artists and musos (his favourite pastime). He is always on the lookout for people with interesting and exciting ideas in music education and will either generate the project or find it in the submissions that arrive on his desk. It's Mark's job to put together the team and guide the project home. Sometimes his role is editorial and sometimes it's hands-on researching, writing, composing and recording - and, these days, filming.

Mark is a Marrickville boy whose family never stood still. He grew up in Sydney, Melbourne and Darwin - giving him an early taste of state similarities and differences in education. These days he has a home, office and studio in Upwey, in Victoria's beautiful Dandenong Ranges, where he lives with his wife, cat, free-range chooks - and several tree frogs, geckoes and bearded dragons (it's a Darwin thing).

Mark has been a classroom teacher, music teacher and Music Advisor, as well as a professional musician, writer and performer. He holds a Dip Prim Tch and a Grad Dip Mus as well as a Grad Dip in Editing and Publishing..

Mark was a founder member of Paraddiddle Band, an Australian-Irish group that has been doing bush dances and primary school programs since 1978 and still won't go away.

In the late eighties, he began writing school musicals with Lynne Bartlett, Rob Fairbairn and Kevin O'Mara. By the end of the decade, he, Lynne and Kev began Bushfire Press and those early shows were the first titles published by the company.

LYNNE BARTLETT - SALES and MARKETING MANAGER

Lynne Bartlett is the centre of Bushfire Press. It's Lynne, Olivia or Stephanie that answer your calls and emails, dispatch your parcels and help you with advice and encouragement.

Lynne was born in England and migrated with her parents to Australia in the sixties. Her father Ken Woodward, was a passionate theatre lover and started one of the first non-professional theatre companies, Kenwood Theatre in Victoria and then moved to far north Queensland, producing works for both adults and children. He was awarded three OAMs for his contributions to theatre. Lynne worked with her father in all aspects of production and went on to gain an Associate Diploma - in Speech & drama - from Trinity College in the UK.

Working in primary schools in the eighties, Lynne began writing children's musicals with Mark Leehy, Kevin O'Mara and Rob Fairbairn. By the end of the decade, Lynne, Mark and Kev began Bushfire Press and those early shows were first titles published by the company.

In between running the office in Plenty Lynne works in primary schools mentoring and team teaching with the performing arts teachers.

Lynne's office in Plenty is the hub of Bushfire Press and always has a great, positive vibe to it, with phones and faxes going, deliveries arriving and departing and the occasional grandchildren to amuse.

Outside of Bushfire Press, Lynne has just written a musical drama for Secondary Schools with David Billings, world premiere in August 2016.

STEVE VERMONT - TECHNICAL and ASIA PROGRAMS SUPPORT

Steve looks after the website and Download Store
and co-ordinates the production of ebooks and other digital offerings.

He is a consumer rather than a producer of music and is continuously in awe of the musical talent at Bushfire Press. Perhaps he could be seen as the Bushfire Press "roadie". His music passion is Early Music on original instruments - but some just see this as a progression from his earlier interests in folk music. It does, however, give Steve the impetus to travel to places like Leipzig, London and Utrecht following early music festivals. And The Renaissance and Machiavelli draw him to consider Firenze a home away from home.

Steve read for his degree in computer science back in the days when the computer system that took up a whole floor of a university building had far less power than the iPhone in your pocket.

He taught mathematics and computing in Melbourne and Perth grammar schools and high schools.
Steve introduced computer aided learning, computer studies and automated library systems to many schools back in the 70s and 80s, intranet and internet networks to schools in the 90s - and went into business in the Internet industry for the new millennium.
This brought him to work with KULCHA (Muliti-cultural Arts of Western Australia -
by now folk music had morphed into world music) and Bushfire Press.
Bushfire Press was a kind of home-coming for Steve
as he and Mark and Kev went to school together back in the 60s.

Steve is now working with Bushfire Press, Tamara O'Brien and Connie Law to establish a We're Orff music program in Asia. Watch this space!
